College Counseling Announcements

Dual Enrollment is a great opportunity for our students to gain college credits while still in high school.  However, it is very important that students and parents understand that these classes and grades are calculated into their high school GPA and are documented on the TKA high school transcript as well as a part of their permanent college transcript and GPA.  Students must have above a 2.0 average in these college courses to gain admittance to any Florida state university.
Taking SAT and/or ACT Tests? A reminder to all students who are taking the SAT and/or ACT Tests, please remember to add The King’s Academy’s high school code (101821) when registering for the test(s).  Entering this code will ensure that your test scores are sent to TKA.  Please note that this does not mean that this information has  to be documented on your transcripts.  It will ensure that we have the most accurate information in our system so that we can better report our averages to the colleges and other stakeholders.
College Counseling Reminders - Seniors:  Just a reminder that if you completed a Dual Enrollment Class, you must get your official transcripts sent by the college.  You must also get your official SAT Test Scores and AP Test Scores sent by College Board and your ACT Test Scores sent by ACT.  Colleges must have these official documents for application.

Family Connection from Naviance, a web-based service designed especially for students and parents.  Please go to the Naviance link located on this page and begin to explore this great resource.

If you have not received your Naviance codes, please contact the Guidance Office.

The College Counseling Program is offered to assist every TKA student in selecting and gaining admission to colleges. The College Counseling Program begins during a student’s freshman and sophomore year with general information provided in a large group setting. Formal and individual guidance begins during a student’s junior year—primarily during the second semester. During the fall of the senior year, the college counselor will assist students in narrowing their college choices, completing applications, and obtaining school recommendations when required by colleges. All college applications are to be submitted to the College Counseling Office where the college counselor will then review them (unless submitted online) and send them out along with transcripts, letters of recommendation and test scores in one packet.

In addition to providing practical assistance, the college counselor will encourage students to be open-minded, considering various types and locations of colleges; to aim high in seeking college admission while remaining realistic about one’s chances of admission; encouraging college visits; and assisting the student in meeting all obligations and deadlines set by both the colleges and TKA.

The College Counseling Office will schedule numerous visits from college representatives throughout the fall and encourage students to visit colleges as well during school breaks or with proper permission, during school.

Attending a quality preparatory school alone does not guarantee college admission. Admission is based upon several factors such as students’ success in their academic classes, rigor of courses taken by the student, SAT/ACT scores, recommendation letters, extracurricular activities (looking for level of participation rather than number of activities), evidence of leadership, personal interviews, and character.
