Dr. Karl Shoemaker ’89

Author and Professor

A 1989 graduate of the school, Dr. Karl Shoemaker is an author and professor of legal history at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. After playing professional baseball in Italy, he earned a J.D. degree from Samford University and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley. His book, Sanctuary and Crime in the Middle Ages, won the John Nicholas Brown Prize of the Medieval Academy; and he has appeared on C-SPAN to debate the merits of unionized workers.
